DIY SUMMER BACKYARD WATERPARK

This started as one of those random ideas that just hit me out of nowhere last summer…

It was hot, nobody wanted to leave the house, and I was trying to figure out how to make the backyard feel a little more exciting without turning it into a whole production. I didn’t want another “activity” — I wanted something that just worked all summer long.

So I started piecing it together. Not all at once, not perfectly… just adding things that made sense. Something to slide on, something to run through, something to splash in. Little by little, it turned into this backyard setup that honestly feels like our own mini waterpark.

What I love most is that it doesn’t feel structured. There’s no plan when we go outside. The kids just move from one thing to another — sliding, running, splashing — and somehow stay entertained way longer than I ever expected. I also always join in on the fun!

It’s messy, it’s loud, there’s water everywhere… but it’s the kind of chaos that feels like a really good day.

I also didn’t want it to feel overcrowded or thrown together, so I spaced everything out a bit. It naturally created these little areas — more active spots and slower ones — and it made the whole thing feel bigger than it actually is.

No packing up the car. No planning. No overthinking it. Just open the door and let summer happen. I didn’t realize how much something this simple would change the feel of our days, but it really did. It turned regular afternoons at home into something that actually feels extra special.

Honestly… I think those are the moments that stick the most.
